Burghfield & Mortimer

Nick Carter, Geoff Mayes & Vicky Poole

Nick Carter has been a Stratfield Mortimer Parish Councillor since 2015.

Nick is leading attempts to devise a just resolution to Mortimer’s long-closed Garth Club building and recently organised a petition supporting Windmill Court residents faced with eviction. Nick is married to Sue, has two sons and has lived in Mortimer since the 1990s. He holds a degree in Electronics, an MBA and, as a former presenter on Radio Caroline, volunteers at Kennet Community Radio on dry land in Newbury.

Geoff Mayes has lived in Mortimer since 1967. He has two sons both of which were educated in St. John’s and St. Mary’s Schools in Mortimer followed by The Willink, Burghfield.

Geoff first became a West Berkshire Councillor for Burghfield & Mortimer in 2011, and has long been at the forefront of championing much needed improvements to our drainage and flood protection systems, as well as ensuring housing meets local needs, and protecting our environment.

Vicky Poole moved into Burghfield Common in 2016 with her now husband, Martin. They fell in love with the area when they were house hunting and can’t imagine living anywhere else. Their son, George (4) attends Mrs Blands Preschool and Edward (1) will be joining in Jan 2024 when he turns two.

After graduating from Manchester University with a degree in Applied Mathematics, Vicky joined the Telecoms industry in technical sales. Working for several companies, Vicky has traveled the length of the UK living in various places before settling down in Berkshire, moving into Bracknell (2008) and Tilehurst (2009) before finding Burghfield Common.

Following a 15-year stint in corporate sales, Vicky became self-employed in December 2020 to allow more time and flexibility around her family. She made the hard decision to leave corporate life following the death of her mother, Joy, earlier in the year. Family is at the heart of everything in the Poole household and they often go out on walks, litter-picking as they go.

Social Value has always played a significant part of Vicky’s life and has been a trustee of Connect Reading since 2012. Connect Reading connects businesses and charities together for mutual socio-economic gain – they run the Giving Tree at Christmas which provides Christmas gifts to children across Berkshire.

When Vicky is not working or having fun with the family, she can often be seen at PureGym in Calcot or tending her allotment plot opposite the skater park. She doesn’t grow much edible produce although she does enjoy her rewilding projects and in recent years has seen common lizards, adders, and frogs on her plot.

In support of the Liberal Democrats, Vicky really hopes to bring her knowledge of telecoms to the table offering an insight of local telecoms' infrastructure. She also has a real interest in planning and community services. Burghfield Common and its surrounding areas have seen large developments in recent years with little investment in community infrastructure, eateries and gathering places, which Vicky would like to influence.

Vicky's pronouns are she, her, hers, and she is a proud member of the LBGTQIA+ family.
