The Liberal Democrats rely on a team of volunteers to win elections and to help build a fairer, greener and more caring West Berkshire. Can you spare a couple of hours a month to help the Liberal Democrats win in your area? Here's some of the ways you can get involved.
Delivering:
Delivering leaflets is the primary way we reach voters with our message. While modern technologies such as email and social media can help reach some people, only leaflets through doors guarantee that our message will find its way into voters’ hands. Usually the ask is that you deliver in your own local area, so there’s no need to go too far. In ‘peacetime’ we ask deliverers to help for about 1 hour a month, although in election times this will likely increase.
Canvassing:
We knock on doors to find out what issues are important to voters, so that we can help them with their concerns. We also do this to gain an insight into the level of our support, so that we can understand how well our campaigns are going. Canvassers operate in teams and usually go out a couple of hours a month during peacetime. Canvassing is a great way to get to know other Lib Dems and also fellow voters across West Berkshire.
Helping in the office:
Our deliverers and canvassers couldn't do what they do effectively without a great office team behind them. Our office volunteers bundle together leaflets and letters for delivery, write and stuff envelopes, and help operate the office machinery, from the printer to the paper folding machine!
Making phone calls:
Like canvassing, we use phone calls to find out about important issues to voters and to gain an insight into the level of our current support. We also use phoning to stay in contact with our members and supporters, ensuring that they are okay, encouraging them to help in upcoming campaigns, and making sure they renew their membership.
Putting up posters:
You've probably seen the Liberal Democrat diamond posters in people's gardens at election time. Getting these up (and taking them down again!) requires a team who aren't afraid of some hard graft. Getting as many posters up as possible at election time is the aim of the game, as there's no better way of demonstrating to others the Lib Dems' popularity where they live.
Helping with IT:
Modern campaigning requires the use of a lot of different IT systems. From analysing election results in Excel, to designing leaflets, to editing videos. If you're an IT whizz then this may be for you!
