Sewage being pumped into a river

Newbury MP Lee Dillon and the Liberal Democrats are calling for Thames Water to be transformed into a public benefit company.
In recent months, Lee has met with the Environment Agency and Thames Water to ensure that local chalk streams are properly protected and no longer threatened by sewage discharges.

Speaking on the issue, Lee Dillon said: “For decades, Thames Water has failed to invest in the essential upgrades our water network desperately needs. As a result, raw sewage continues to be pumped into our precious rivers and streams while shareholders profit.

“The Liberal Democrats are calling for a complete overhaul of the water sector. It’s time these companies were made to clean up their own mess, under a new regulator that puts the environment and customers first.”
