Eagle Quarter Defeated! Lib Dems stand up against over development
At three successive planning meetings Cllrs Colston and Sturgess showed how the sheer scale of the 7 and 8 storey blocks would cause real, significant and permanent harm to the Newbury town centre Conservation Area. They even built a virtual 3D model of the development to show views the developer declined to provide.
Ward Councillor Andy Moore also argued clearly against on behalf of the Town Council.
Your ward councillors worked closely with the Newbury Society and the Town Council in support of overwhelming public rejection of the scheme. Vindication came on 8th January when the planning application was refused.
And the best news is that the developer has submitted a totally new plan to redevelop the Kennet Centre – ‘Old Town, Newbury’ - consisting mainly of 2,3 and 4 storey mews housing much more in keeping with the scale and design of the surrounding town centre buildings.
