There have been a large number of occasions where travellers have been staying in West Berkshire this year and some of these have caused a great deal of disturbance and distress to local residents and businesses. Many of these incidents have been on council-owned land.
There are many green areas in towns and villages that are owned by the Council and that are vulnerable to such unauthorised encampments.
We, the undersigned, call upon West Berkshire to urgently carry out an assessment of the susceptibility of each of its green areas in towns and villages to unauthorised encampments.
The assessment should assess each site on its vulnerability to such encampments and the likely impact on nearby homes. The assessment to be then used to prioritise a programme to improve the security of the sites against future encampments.
