Responding to local Conservative MPs Laura Farris and Alok Sharma voting down changes to the Trade Bill which would help courts overturn trade deals with countries involved in committing genocide, Lee Dillon, Liberal Democrat Spokesperson for Newbury, implored them to do more.
“We implore our local Conservative MPs to do the right thing and put human rights first and ensure that we as Britain continue to set a high standard of international policy against genocide and other human rights abuses.
On Holocaust Memorial Day, celebrated next Wednesday, we always say "never again". This was an opportunity for Britain to align our actions with our words. If a similar amendment returns to the House of Commons then our local Conservative MPs must vote for it.
The Liberal Democrats will continue to fight to protect human rights around the world and push this Conservative government to ensure that we are a Britain that we can be proud of.”
