Oppose Diamond field as Plan B for the new Newbury sports ground

At the West Berkshire Council Executive meeting on 14th January 2021, the Tory Executive agreed to have the Diamond field on Pigeons Farm at Greenham as their Plan B for the site of a new sports ground for Newbury.

This was strongly opposed at the meeting by the West Berks Councillors for Greenham, Cllr Phil Barnett, Cllr Billy Drummond and Cllr Erik Pattenden because the Diamond field

  • is too small,
  • lacks the necessary infrastructure, including for car parking, needed for a new sports ground,
  • is a significant community asset for local people and groups that would be lost.
