Jo Day (right above) was born and grew up in Newbury. She studied and taught maths and computer studies in Kent for 20 years and returned to Newbury with her husband and two children in 1991. Jo continued to teach full time, holding various positions of responsibility, until her retirement in 2011. She became a Newbury Town Councillor in 2007 and has served on various committees and working groups until the present.
Jo was a school governor and a trustee at Citizens Advice West Berkshire. Currently she is a member of the Royal British Legion Branch Committee and a Deacon at Newbury Baptist Church.
During her year as Mayor (2014-2015) she gained a very special knowledge of our town and what makes it “tick”. She continues to take part in organising events to commemorate, celebrate and appreciate Newbury and its people and to encourage everyone to take good care of the environment.
In her leisure time she enjoys cooking, gardening and singing with the Three Rivers Choir.
