In 2020 our Local Party executive in West Berkshire wrote and signed up to an 'Inclusivity Charter’ to demonstrate its commitment to tackling issues relating to diversity. As part of that work, Local Party Vice Chair, Sarah Lowes, who is leading the executive’s work on Inclusivity, will be facilitating this members event to look at the impact unconscious bias can have when we are out on the campaign trail, whether we are doing that virtually or on the doorstep. As Liberal Democrats, if we are “to promote diversity of cultures within the Party and to represent the interest of under-represented groups”, as our local Lib Dem constitution states we must, then we need to work to ensure that bias does not get in the way of us being able to connect with local members, residents and voters. The aim of this event will be to ask and begin to answer the following questions:
Sarah will come with information and ideas to share, but will be focusing on supporting the group to answer these questions for themselves.Do come and join us to discuss what is an important topic of these times.
- What is unconscious bias?
- How does it affect our political work as members of and activists for the Liberal Democrats?
- How might it play a part in our campaigning in the upcoming Clayhill By Election? And
- How do we best support each other to challenge and tackle unconscious bias in ourselves, in this party and in our communities?
