History repeats itself as another Conservative Councillor is removed for long term non-attendance.

Clay Hill ward, Newbury, has been let down by their Councillor Jeff Cant, who has been removed from his position on Newbury Town Council after six months of failing to attend meetings.

Andy Moore, Chair of the West Berkshire and Newbury Liberal Democrats, said:

“Residents deserve better from their Councillors; they have the right to be properly represented.

Half a year is too long for any ward to be under represented on the Town Council, and in a year like 2020, Clay Hill residents deserve their full complement.

This is not the first time that the Conservatives have been found absent.

Back in 2018 a by-election was also triggered in Thatcham West as the result of a Conservative Councillor’s non-attendance. The Liberal Democrats won the by-election and picked up the pieces."

Lee Dillon, leader of the Liberal Democrat group on West Berkshire Council, added:

"If Jeff Cant can’t show up, the Lib Dems can."
