Dr Royce Longton (right above) An ecologist by profession, Royce enjoyed a career with British Antarctic Survey and the Universities of Manitoba and Reading, where he was Head of the Department of Botany. He has represented Burghfield and Mortimer on Berkshire County Council, and Burghfield on West Berkshire Council. He was Leader of West Berkshire Council for four years, helping to it steer it towards major achievements such as creating a nature reserve on Greenham Common, complemented by a successful business park at Greenham. Drawing on his professional experience he has taken a keen interest in environmental issues, from working to minimise CO2 emissions and maximise recycling to seeking to ensure that essential housing is provided with minimum destruction of our attractive countryside.
Geoff Mayes (left above)is a Chartered Civil Engineer who has lived in Mortimer for over 50 years. He has worked in over 35 countries overseas on water-related aid projects, including post-conflict rehabilitation. He was EU project team leader in Kosovo, Sudan and Liberia. Here he served on the Fire Authority’s Standards Committee and the District Council’s Remuneration Panel before being elected to Council for Mortimer in 2011. He focused on planning, transport and governance issues as a Councillor and since 2015 has been an Independent Member of the West Berkshire Council’s Governance and Ethics Committee. He is a Parish Councillor in Beech Hill.
